Know the Different Battery Types for Electric RC Vehicles

Various RC vehicles run on different power sources. Among these, RC cars or boats that run on electricity are the easiest to operate. With electric remote control cars or boats, there is no need for sophisticated technical knowledge or the need for glow plugs or fuel.

The only requirements are to charge the batteries and to ensure correct wiring. That’s pretty much it!

Rechargeable battery packs for RC vehicles can be typically either one of the following: NiCd, NiMH, or Li-Po cells. Following are more information on RC batteries.

Know your batteries

NiCd
The NiCd (Nickel-Cadmium) battery is the most common and cost-effective battery type. Most of the smallest RC cars and toys ideally run on this battery.

NiMH
The NiMH or Nickel-Metal Hydride battery is more powerful compared to its NiCd counterpart, although both batteries are roughly of the same size. The NiMH comes with higher capacity range and also costs more.

Li-Po / Li-Ion
The Li-Po (Lithium-Polymer) and LiIon (Lithim-Ion) batteries are newer and more innovative battery types. Prices for these batteries are higher than the previous two.

They also require specific chargers. With either of these batteries, your RC vehicle can powerfully run for significantly longer periods of time.

What to expect when buying

When you first purchase remote control vehicle or helicopters, rechargeable batteries are generally included in the package. There are online RC vehicle stores that offer options to upgrade your battery pack for a wider capacity range.

RC vehicle battery cells being sold in the market today have energy storing capacities between 50mAh (milliamp hours) for smaller cars to 5400mAh for powerful vehicles.

Batteries usually take around 20 minutes to fully recharge, so many RC drivers and hobbyists usually bring several battery packs with them.

If you don’t have time to wait for a complete recharge of your RC model battery pack, it’s ideal to alternate batteries while the other is charging.

When planning to buy an RC car, boat or helicopter for yourself or for a loved one, be sure to do your homework first, so you will make sure that you get exactly what you are looking for. Doing your shopping online is also a more convenient way to go.

With that, be sure to learn more about RC vehicles or do your own research about RC models and RC batteries that you like before you go out to buy one for you or your kids.  http:// http:// Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial
